How to Choose the Right Power for Different Material Thicknesses
To match laser power with material thickness, consider material type and cutting depth.
For soft materials like wood, leather and acrylic, about 10W can cut 1mm: 20W cuts 2–3mm, 40W cuts 4–6mm.
For metal with fiber lasers: 500W cuts 1–2mm steel, 1000W cuts 3–4mm, 1500W cuts 5–6mm, 2000W cuts over 8mm.
For CO₂ lasers on non-metals: 40W cuts 3–5mm, 60W cuts 5–8mm, 80–100W cuts over 10mm.
Thicker, harder materials or high-speed production require higher power, plus air assist and cooling for clean, smooth cuts.
