Brake Resistor

This is aluminum-housed braking resistor (also called a discharge resistor), a critical component for variable frequency drives (VFDs) and servo systems.

Function: Absorbs and dissipates excess electrical energy generated when a motor decelerates or a VFD shuts down, preventing voltage spikes in the DC bus that could damage the drive. It converts kinetic energy from the motor into heat, which is safely radiated away.

Structure: A high-power resistor encased in a finned aluminum housing, designed for passive air cooling. The finned surface maximizes heat dissipation, and it comes with insulated lead wires for electrical connection.

Performance: Typically rated for power levels from 100W to several kW, with resistance values ranging from a few ohms to hundreds of ohms. The aluminum housing ensures efficient heat transfer and mechanical durability.

Application: Widely used in industrial automation systems, including CNC machine tools, robotics, and conveyor systems, to protect variable frequency drives and servo drives during dynamic braking.
